    WEDM is to connect the negative electrode of the pulse power supply through the electrode wire and the positive pole of the pulse power supply to the workpiece. After the high frequency pulse power supply is switched on, when the distance between the workpiece and the electrode wire is less than the discharge distance, The pulse electric energy causes the dielectric (working fluid) to break down, forming a discharge channel. Under the action of the electric field force, a large number of negatively charged electrons rush to the positive electrode at high speed, and the positively charged ions to the negative electrode. The high temperature caused by ionization makes the workpiece surface melt or even vaporize, and the metal is thrown out with the movement of the electrode wire and the impact of the working fluid, thus forming pits on the workpiece surface. In high temperature region, because of polarity effect, the distribution of energy between electrode wire and workpiece is different, so the surface temperature of electrode wire and workpiece is different, and the melting temperature of electrode wire is much higher than the melting temperature of workpiece material. At the same time, the electrode wire leaves the high temperature area at high speed, so the corrosion amount of the electrode in the high temperature region is much smaller than that of the workpiece, which makes the surface of the workpiece form a larger pit, while a very small pit is formed on the surface of the electrode wire. Because the machining process is continuous and the stepping motor is continuously fed to keep the gap between the electrode wire and the workpiece to maintain the discharge, the workpiece is gradually cut out a gap.
